This error is usually caused when there is not enough memory to preform the action. Certain images, depending on the bit depth, can render the image too large as the image has to be re-rendered to a higher bit depth to allow for the transparency layer. 

 

One thing that you can try to do in some cases is re-import the drawings at a lower DPI setting such as "150" with color set to "Black and White".
