Problem

How can I backup or restore the Revu settings, preferences and stamps?

Solution

Revu offers several ways to customize your settings to ensure a perfect fit.

Once you’ve configured Revu exactly the way you want, having created or customized Profiles, tool sets, and stamps, you should back up these settings so you always have a copy to revert to in case you have computer issues, or if you migrate to a new computer.

Note: If you’re backing up your settings and stamps because you’re moving to a new PC or Windows tablet, you should also take a look at the article that covers moving a Bluebeam license to a new computer.

Backing Up and Restoring Revu Settings, Tool Sets, Profiles & Templates

The Bluebeam Administrator includes a quick way to back up all Revu configuration settings at once. This includes Profiles, tool sets, and hatch and line patterns, which are all put into a single Zip file that can be stored on your network or backup drive. You can also back up individual Profiles and tools sets within Revu, but the Administrator lets you back them up all at once.

To back up the settings using the Bluebeam Administrator:

    1. Make sure Revu is currently closed.
    2. Click Start > All Programs > Bluebeam Software > Bluebeam Administrator.

In Windows 10 and 8.1, click or press Start win8-start-black-on-white-1x4pixel.png and type Bluebeam Administrator.

      -Or-

Go to Help > Administrator in Revu.

    3. Click the Revu tab.
    4. Click Backup Settings, and choose a location to save the resulting Zip (.zip) file in.
    5. Click Save

Note: Only files in this folder are backed up. Profiles and tool sets that are stored in another location, such as another folder or on a server, are not included.

Manually Backing Up Your Settings

You can also back up the entire folder manually or add the folder to your backup routine. It’s located in

C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Roaming\Bluebeam Software\Revu.

Once you’re inside the Revu folder, you’ll see a sub-folder named after the current version of Revu that’s installed on your machine. For example, version 10 users will see a folder called 10, and Revu 2015 users will see one called 15.

Note:This folder also contains at least one database of the Recents list and the Pinned files that appears on the File Access tab. In Revu 12.5 and above there are three files that are used for this purpose, called RdbFileAccesses.dat, RdbPinnedFiles.dat, and RdbRecentFiles.dat. In Revu 12.1 and below, you’ll find a single file called Recents.db.

When backing up this folder, it’s important to remember that these files aren’t compatible between Revu versions, and Revu may not open if the wrong file is imported.

Restoring Your Settings from a Backup

      4. Click Restore Settings, and then locate and select the Zip (.zip) file of the backup.
      5. Click Open
      6. Close the Bluebeam Administrator by clicking Apply and OK.

Note: You can import individual tool sets (.btx files) or Revu Profiles (.bpx) by opening the Zip file and double-clicking them.

Backing Up and Restoring Your Stamps

Your Stamps are stored in a different location that’s accessed via the Net Config tab in the Administrator as described below:

      2. Click the Net Config tab.
      3. Double-click in the text box labelled Stamps which contains the path to the folder.

Once the folder opens, you can copy the contents to the same location as your Revu settings backup.

Restoring Your Stamps

Restoring your stamps is simply a matter of copying back into the location specified on the NetConfig tab.

Advanced Settings

You only need to complete these steps if you’ve configured these options in Revu or the plugins.

Note: If you need to move these items to a new PC or Windows tablet, make sure you copy them into the corresponding locations on the new device.

      • Open the Bluebeam Administrator.
      • Click the Net Config tab.
      • Double-click on the path next to Printer Driver.

      • Open the Bluebeam Administrator.
      • Click the Net Config tab.
      • Double-click on the path next to Global Page Setup.
      • Copy the files *.plugin.xml to the same location as the rest of your backup.

E-mail Templates

      • Open the Bluebeam Administrator.
      • Click the Net Config tab.
      • Double-click on the path next to E-mail Templates.
      • Copy all the files in the folder to the same location as the rest of your backup.

An Important Suggestion

Even if you’re not moving to a new machine immediately, it’s a good idea to save a copy of the backup to a location other than your local hard drive, so it can be found in the event of a hard drive failure.
